Dear @support My pixelfed instance shows 8 failed jobs, but not wht they are and what I can do, it never shows anything in discover besides my own posts and seems to refuse to create previews a lot of the time (are that the failed jobs?) - am I doing something wrong?

@jwildeboer In your admin dashboard, there is the "more" dropdown, you should see "Horizon" under that. It will show you the failed jobs, and offer you the ability to retry them. Looking at the failed jobs, it looks like it could be some of the code doesn't support PHP7.4, if you retry them and it still fails I think I will drop everyone back down to 7.3.

CC: @pixeldev I will open Github tickets for these exceptions.

@support @pixeldev I've restarted them and they still fail: "ErrorException: Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is deprecated in /var/www/vendor/ezyang/htmlpurifier/library/HTMLPurifier/Encoder.php:162" and "Symfony\Component\Debug\Exception\FatalThrowableError: Call to undefined function Intervention\Image\Gd\imagecreatefromjpeg() in /var/www/vendor/intervention/image/src/Intervention/Image/Gd/Decoder.php:38"

@jwildeboer @pixeldev I'm pushing out PHP 7.3 to all instances now, I'll let you know when it is done so you can retry those tasks again. Sorry for the troubles.

@support @pixeldev No worries, glad I could help identifying the problem and getting you to fix it :) That helps me and all other instance owners :) Sharing is Caring :)

@jwildeboer @pixeldev alright, 7.3 is now deployed. If you still get those exceptions please let me know and I can update the github ticket with additional information.

@support @pixeldev But I can still not add posts to a collection and I still get nothing visible in Discover. First one is a known issue that should be fixed upstream soon, second might just me being to n00b to understand hwo it is supposed to work. I would like to add e.g. to my stream but cannot find out how.

@jwildeboer @pixeldev to follow other instances you can search for remote users by using the following format in the search box: I believe the @user@domain.tld format that mastodon uses is coming soon as an option for searching.

@support Yes, I know (and teh new syntax works already ;) But that only allows me to add users. I thought (and maybe I am wrong here) that I could add whole instances to the public timeline of my instance, not just selected users.

@support I am trying to understand what the "discover" function actually does. So far it only shows me my posts, which is kind of uninteresting ;)

@jwildeboer oh yes, I believe the "discover" function, is just for the instance that it is on, so you can "discover" other users on your instance. Not so useful for single user instances though.

@support Yep. Kinda like looking through my living room with closed curtains when in reality I want to see what's happening in my street, my city or even the whole world ;)

@jwildeboer ah ok, I understand what you are aiming for now. I know peertube has that functionality (following whole instances), but I'm not sure PF has it. PF does have "tag" follows, but that is just for a certain tag, and isn't for instance follows. Maybe that is a new feature request. I'll add a ticket requesting that.
