In , an IMHO unholy, unplanned alliance between deniers, judges and police is undermining the efforts to contain the spread of the virus. The pattern is now established. This started months ago. 1/x

The government declares rules like closing restaurants, gyms and immediately folks rush to court to try to find judges that ignore reality and focus on a very precise interpretation of the law to undermine the rules. 2/x

The Corona deniers organise via facebook, Telegram and yes, Twitter. They know that when enough people show up to their demonstrations, the pattern will work. 3/x

Show thread

So. They announce a demonstration against the Corona rules, say, in . The authorities apply the rules and tell them, say, max 1000 people that have to keep distance and wear masks. The very thing they protest against. 4/x

They go to court, typically hours, one day before the demonstration starts. They already know which judges are sympathetic (to be fair - almost all are, seemingly). They complain that they have far more participants etc. 5/x

So judge overrules and states new regulations. Typically this means more participants allowed. And the organisers, of course, happily agree to enforce rules about distancing and wearing masks. 6/x

Show thread

We are now typically hours away from the start of the demonstration. Thousands of participants have gathered already, using public transport, not wearing masks, shouting at other passengers that they are sheeps etc. 7/x

Show thread

The police now has to come up with a plan (and mobilise forces) to officially enforce the rules. The charade begins. The gathered participants openly mock the rules, don't wear masks, don't keep distance. 8/x

Show thread

The organisers offically ask the participants to please follow the rules. Everybody laughs. Police says they might have to do something. Everybody laughs. 9/x

Show thread

Thousands of participants have gathered now (in the official count was between 16000 and 20000). The mood gets aggressive. The police decides to stop enforcing the rules to keep things peaceful. 10/x

Show thread

In the end the police simply walks away. Violent radicals start attacking journalists. Shop windows get destroyed. Everything is out of control. 11/x

Show thread

The next day, some official steps up, explains how the police really did everything they can. The participants go home, full of assurance that they can safely ignore all rules. We, the responsible people, look in horror and ask ourselves how to deal with this. 12/x

Show thread

This has happened over and over again. This is undermining the rules, that are NEEDED right now. This is a pandemic. People are dying. I am honestly out of ideas. The radicals are winning. Backed by judges and the police. The end. 13/13

@jwildeboer
Hot (and cynical) take: do nothing to help covidiots and isolate from anyone so utterly irresponsible that they actively choose to endanger others out of pure egoism.
