@mel you held them together, pressed the button and they would exchange a unique ID via NFC. This unique ID was linked to your digital business card at poken.com (now defunct) So you could get the contact data of the people you met and Poken could build elaborate data around it.
@jwildeboer Thanks for the explanation, I had never heard about Poken but they were ahead of the times.
@mel I think I used it maybe twice. First time when I got it at an event and then at one event a few weeks later. That was back in 2007, IIRC. After that I never saw it being used anywhere again. I still wonder what happened to all the data they collected.
