@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.netI was almost at 10000 followers. But I went through my followers, sorted by activity date. Turns out that some 1200 followers had no registered activity since more than 3 years. So I removed them from my follower list. So I guess I'll have to wait for another year to get to 10K :)

@jandi I admit, round numbers that size do stroke my ego. Which is why I forced myself to be honest. Because ego only makes things worse. What you just said, that you like to follow me — THAT is the important thing. That is worth more than 10K :) So thank you for following me through my weird timeline :)

@jwildeboer I find that a very interesting thing to do. These people signed up, found you, was interested in what you wrote and subscribed to your updates. You then removed from following your updates since they did not publish anything that you could read. Do you do the same for RSS and block IPs that does not operate a public web server?
@hesthamar A lot of these accounts I deleted from my follower list were obvious spam or bot accounts, others were accounts that I know moved to BlueSky and stopped being active on the fediverse. I think 3 years of zero activity on the fediverse is an acceptable cutoff date. Remember that each time I post, this gets sent to the inboxes of my followers. So sending posts to inactive accounts also means more work for my server.
