Every 3 years, German statistics on (industrial) use of water are published by destatis. The newest numbers, comparing 2022 to 2019 shows: industrial use of water *dropped* by around 17%, that’s 2.56 billion cubic metres less.

Main reason: switching off the last 3 nuclear power plants. That alone saved 2.03 billion cubic metres.

Statistisches BundesamtDeutsche Wirtschaft nutzt 12,75 Milliarden Kubikmeter Wasser im Jahr 2022Im Jahr 2022 haben die Betriebe in Deutschland rund 12,75 Milliarden Kubikmeter Wasser eingesetzt. Das waren rund 2,56 Milliarden Kubikmeter oder 16,7 % weniger als im Jahr 2019. Wie das Statistische Bundesamt (Destatis) weiter mitteilt, ging der Wassereinsatz hauptsächlich bei den Energieversorgern zurück. Vor allem durch die zwischenzeitliche Stilllegung dreier Kernkraftwerke wurden in der Energieversorgung im Jahr 2022 rund 2,02 Milliarden Kubikmeter Wasser weniger genutzt als bei der vorherigen Erhebung im Jahr 2019.
