People that are on #Mastodon since a few days because of Musk and his antics, writing long essays on how Mastodon is better or worse - don't. Please don't. Your first impression mixed with your hopes and fears are not the objective view you think it is. Give it some time.
As someone who is "here" since 4+ years, I can tell you - right now I see a lot of twitter-esque behaviours on my Mastodon timeline, negativity, provocations, the unconsciously trained behaviour to please the algorithm that no longer exists. That will fade.
Mastodon doesn't reward that behaviour. Even if you bring over your usual Twitter folks, in a few weeks you will adapt and look back, wondering, how much better and positive the communication flows become.
Of course you will try to stick to old habits at the beginning. We've seen that happening a few times before. This time the influx is far bigger, but the mechanics haven't changed. The faster you "get" it, the better your experience will be. Give it time :)
And also of course - I could be naive and completely wrong and Mastodon moves in a new direction. We will see. I share my experiences and interpretations in the hope of it being helpful. I Don't control or decide anything. You use this platform/protocol in your ways, I hope it will be more or less compatible with mine. That's all. Now go forth and have fun finding new friends!
