#Lazyweb What's the best tool for precise cutting of the foam in my new camera cases? A sharp knife? And how to do round holes for the lenses? I don't have a laser cutter available, so that is not an option :) (Based on your own practical experience, if possible. I can search the internet myself :)
UPDATE: Consensus is a pointy, serrated knife. Which will be my weapon of choice. :)
@jwildeboer No idea if it'd work but I immediately thought of this: https://www.instructables.com/Simple-Styrofoam-Hot-Wire-Cutter/
@jwildeboer wenn du hast, nen heißer Draht ist am angenehmsten. Sonst scharfes Messer geht auch ganz gut
@jwildeboer i did a quick poc with these tools. The blade of the saw is a metal blade. Sandwiched the foam between karton of an old package. Holes are cut freehand, so ignore the shape. The edges look pretty neat, so with more patience outcome should be fine.
Pin holes before cutting holes. Avoid cutting from the outside. Keep the foam as one piece, otherwise it will end up in a mass, because the foam will fall apart.
@jwildeboer what i see from your picture it looks like the upper foam is the bottom of the case. That would be how my rollei case was build. Its some sandwich of two materials. Stiffer bottom and foamy upper side.
Your lower big foam is where i would cut the holes. Make sure to not press the foam while cutting. Maybe stick some spacer in the foam. The paper will guide the saw.
@jwildeboer I use a filleting knife for round holes. It's narrow enough, and it's easy to keep super sharp, which is a must when cutting foam.
@jwildeboer maybe a hot wire cutter like the ones for styrofoam
