If you are bored with or wonder why I share so much technical stuff in bursts, let me explain. I am privileged. I can afford to run several servers and a cute homelab. I have 30+ years of experience with Linux and Free and Open Source Software. It is my belief that I must use my privilege to share as much as I can. Without paywalls. Without expecting or asking for credit. In the hope it encourages more people to do stuff The Open Way. In ways I can't imagine from my privileged position. 1/3

YES, you can develop, support open source/Free Software (FOSS) projects as an unpaid hobby, just for fun.

YES, you can develop and support projects as (big or small) part of your paid job or as freelancer.

YES, you can develop and support FOSS projects by asking for donations.

And yes, all of these approaches can exist at the same time. YOU decide. FOSS is about freedom, not about money or not.

And NO, you owe no-one an explanation or justification on why you do the way you do.

Nuclear energy outprices itself in that market more and more.</p>

What is striking to me is that it is always the same, simple, binary argument: Germany dirty, France clean, when it comes to electricity production. Germany bad, France good. It never really goes beyond that and they never want to engage in factual discussions.</p>

They regularly show up here, tell you how bad Germany is for having stopped using nuclear and when you show them the numbers on emission reduction Germany did manage *while also* leaving nuclear behind, they accuse me of being dishonest, not smart enough to understand them etc. Germany decided against nuclear energy. That decision cannot and will not be reversed. France chose a different path and we respect that. Maybe they should respect us too?</p>

Jan Wildeboer 😷:krulorange:<p>The main problem is a deformed contact between battery and controller unit. I seem to have fixed it temporarily with a bit of bending to ensure better contact. I will replace that connector to be sure, but if that really was the main problem, the fix costs less than €3 and a bit of soldering.</p>
Jan Wildeboer 😷:krulorange:<p>My e-bike has repaired itself, it seems. Today I planned to take it apart as the controller seemed to have self-destructed 3 weeks ago. I got all the parts for a full replacement of controller, battery, motor, display, sensors. Just for fun I pressed the power button a final time. And it JustWorks? After 3 weeks of nothing. Weird! But I’ll take the win. Took it for a 20km ride to be sure. It works.</p>

Some do, for sure, but the wars surrounding us, the attacks on our infrastructure, far-right (political) violence and yes, climate change are more relevant to most of us, as far as I can see.</p>
